Have You Hugged a Snow Bird Today?

The 2011 Florida Snow Bird season has arrived. This annual migration, dating back to the early 1900’s and publicized during the Thomas Edison era has evolved to represent an undeniable impact on our states economy. The Sarasota, Bradenton area of Florida is a very popular destination for folks from many frozen northern states, Canada and other international locations. To the dismay of many locals, the often distracted Snow Bird motorist has typically presented a challenge for impatient drivers and shoppers used to the tropical pace of summer weather.

This year, our economy is recovering from the implosion of the national real estate market and the environmental nightmare of an oil spill. We are especially grateful and fortunate that our seasonal guests and residents have chosen our area. North American weather patterns have produced record cold conditions for 2010 and early 2011. We encourage our local population to see the big picture and embrace the annual influx of snow bird individuals as a shot in our damaged economic arm.

As the Sarasota, Bradenton real estate market continues to show signs of stabilizing, foreclosure and short sale inventory will take time to normalize. Property taxes are being reduced as home values have corrected. Mortgage rates remain at generational lows. Winter vacation homes are still in demand as the cold weather drives homebuyers to the bargains and the warmer weather.
